The University of La Verne debate team is still on top and coach Ian Lising is making sure that it stays there.

The last time Juan Garcia spoke with his brother, he said that it was weird and uncomfortable. It was two days before his brother was scheduled to fly to Iraq to serve as a Military Policeman.

A University of La Verne debate team placed an impressive 12th place in the World Universities Debating Championships, beating out Yale, Princeton, MIT and all of its U.S. competitors in the annual tournament held in January in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The University of La Verne Theater Department gives another stellar performance adapting William Shakespeare's "Pericles," which plays tonight and tomorrow in the Cabaret Theater.

This past Saturday I was an 'adjudicator' at the International Debate Tournament held on campus. It was organized by Ian Lising, the Instructor of debate and speech with the help of members of the debate team.

I would like to thank Mr. Casarez for his insightful letter [Sept. 21]. There is no question that insane murderers committed a horrible crime against humanity on Sept. 11. My heart goes out to all the victims and their families. Killing innocent people can never be justified under any circumstances.
