Summer is almost here and that means University of La Verne students will be racing around local businesses and companies looking for work to pay for school, rent or to finally have some extra cash in their pockets.

This year’s spring commencement ceremonies will feature University of La Verne Board of Trustees member Myrna Long Wheeler; Dean of the College of Educational and Organizational Leadership Leonard Pellicer; host of KPCC-FM’s “Air Talk” Larry Mantle; author and peace activist Azim N. Khamisa; and U.S. Army Major General Retired William K. Suter.

Many University of La Verne students were delivered a blow to their pockets when new financial aid packages came out recently. The main reason has been the failure in the federal budget to reinstate many programs, as well as freezing the Federal Work-Study budget, which was seriously cut for the 2004-2005 school year.

With the average price of gas creeping toward the $4 mark, consumers are left with no other choice than to suck it up and pay the rising cost. The shock to the wallet cannot be felt harder than for commuting college students.

The locally founded Iota Delta sorority made the brave and noble decision March 16 to showcase Greek life at the University of La Verne in a positive light through their “No Sex or Latex” campaign.
