A female University of La Verne student was harassed in front of the ULV Law School and in the Quad area on Sept. 17 between 7 and 7:20 a.m.
The student was on her way to school in the area of Bonita and Towne Avenue, when she noticed she was being followed by a man in a van. The vehicle was later reported as being a primer gray 1977-78 Ford van.
The suspect stopped at a red light and the student continued on her way to school, parked in front of the Law School and exited her vehicle. The suspect parked next to her, stepped out of his vehicle and started a conversation about the student’s potential for becoming a model.
The student stated that she was not interested, but the suspect continued the conversation about modeling while placing his hand on her hip, and physically preventing her from walking away when she attempted walking to the Quad area.
“The suspect took her by the wrist and sat her down by a park bench,”said John Lentz, director of campus safety and transportation. Lentz said that the student attempted to get up and walk away, but he took her by the wrist and sat her down by the park bench again.
The suspect finally stopped following the student and she was eventually able to get away.
The incident was reported to the La Verne Police Department (LVPD) the following day. Lentz said Campus Safety wanted to see whether LVPD was doing any follow ups before they released the information.
“People need to be aware of everything going on around them and look at everything in a suspicious manner,” Lentz said.
In a memo released to the ULV community, the suspect is described as being a Hispanic man between the age of 45-50. He is 5’4″ tall, and about 180 pounds and was described as being “chubby.” He has brown hair in crew cut or flat top style with a long dark mustache.
