The University’s Tikkun Olam International Club celebrated Tashlich with family and community members Sunday evening at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.
Tashlich is an atonement ritual performed during the Jewish High Holy Days, which begin with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. The Tashlich prayer is done near a body of water, where participants throw breadcrumbs to symbolically shed their sins.
The Sunday event began with a spread of Dutch and Indonesian food including bami, veggie lasagna, tomato goat cheese and crackers, beef satay skewers with peanut sauce and more.
Following the meal, the group did a blessing of the challah bread. Then everyone took a pinch of challah, ate a bite and tossed small pieces into the stream to mark the start of the Jewish New Year 5784.
