Dear Editor,
I have been a part-time instructor in the department of sociology and anthropology for the past 10 years.
In that time, I have worked with Dr. Glenn Goodwin for approximately seven years. He is exceedingly professional, his students benefit greatly from his teaching, and he has been an invaluable member of the department.
The decision was recently made to not grant Dr. Goodwin a full-time lecturer position. I feel this is a travesty; I have noticed the exceedingly high level of dedication that the people in this department offer, and I am employed at a facility for delinquent youth at which seven graduates of the ULV department of sociology and anthropology are employed.
All of them talk regularly about the excellent education they received and all talk very highly of what they learned from Dr. Goodwin. His dedication to educating our students and his dedication to his own growth as a professor are without question.
I feel the University is missing a golden opportunity to utilize the services of a wonderful professor and human being who has been a very positive force in the education of our students.
I am a graduate, also, of ULV, and I have always loved the “family” atmosphere; I hope that the University is trying to maintain that and not becoming a business instead.
