The La Verne baseball team won its 21st Southern California Intercollegite Athletic Conference title with a three-game sweep of Whittier last weekend.
The Leopards traveled to Whittier Friday to beat the Poets, 9-6. Then the two teams matched up for a doubleheader Saturday at Ben Hines Field, which La Verne swept, 10-4 and 7-6.
Sophomore pitcher Cody Norman and the Leopards’ offense carried La Verne to a 8-0 win against Pomona-Pitzer in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader at Ben Hines Field.
La Verne dominated Pomona-Pitzer over the weekend, sweeping the three-game series and taking sole possession of second place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Eric Bishop, a University of La Verne alumnus, who also held several positions at La Verne – including associate dean of academic advising, journalism professor and Campus Times adviser – was recently appointed president of Ohlone Community College in Fremont, California. He starts July 6.

It has been 15 long, spectacular years of coaching at the University of La Verne for Owen Wright, professor of physical education, who will retire this month. But for Wright, he will take with him fond memories of ULV when he moves to Oregon next month.
