In honor of Andrew Tompkins, a former University of La Verne diver and business administration major who died of cancer on Sept. 22, the University hosted a celebration of his life Oct. 3 in the Athletics Pavilion.
A young woman, dressed in a black, floor length gown, stood barefoot at the entrance to Founders Hall with an embroidered black veil tightly masking her face. At the base of the steps sat another young woman dressed similarly. Between them were rows of burning candles, and all around them were rows of chairs and people, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the fashion show.
The hyperpop duo 100 gecs brought a new, intoxicating stage presence to the Glass House in Pomona at their April 14 show. 100 gecs’ performance was a stimulating mix of genres like electronica, pop and synthcore that I have never seen before at this venue.
Eric Bishop, a University of La Verne alumnus, who also held several positions at La Verne – including associate dean of academic advising, journalism professor and Campus Times adviser – was recently appointed president of Ohlone Community College in Fremont, California. He starts July 6.
