Senior conducts beach clean up

It was more than just a gorgeous day at the Bolsa Chica State Beach on April 26, when about 75 people came out to support a “Save the Beach” event, which senior Troy Doolittle coordinated as his senior project.

Junior defensive end (No. 33) Joshua Washington and junior defensive lineman Stephen James (No. 95) of La Verne pressured Chapman quarterback Eric Marty in the second half. Marty was forced to shovel a pass to running back Ian Galanis, who was tackled for a 1-yard loss by James. A bittersweet ‘goodbye’

Wanting to end the season on a high note, the La Verne football team tried for another win but lost to Chapman, 31-27, ending the season with a 1-8 overall record.

On their way to win the first game of the season, University of La Verne’s wide receiver Grady Thomas maintained control of the ball against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ David Spiller and Aaron Campbell during the second quarter at Ortmayer Stadium. La Verne’s offense gained a total of 446 yards Saturday afternoon bringing them to a 31-7 victory over the Stags and a SCIAC record of 1-5. Leos fall to Redlands in Palm Desert, 45-17

Due to air quality concerns throughout Southern California because of the ongoing wildfires, the La Verne and Redlands football teams traveled to Palm Desert Saturday for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game originally scheduled to be played in Redlands.

The University of La Verne football team fell to Whittier during the Homecoming game Saturday. Wide receiver Ryan Cofflet made a gain of two yards towards the end of the fourth quarter, before being tackled by the Poets’ Brett Barstow. The Leopards lost 31-28, with a final 59-yard field goal attempt in the last few seconds of the game. La Verne’s overall record now stands at 0-6. ULV will play at Redlands tomorrow at 1 p.m. before returning home to play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps the following week. / photo by Rhiannon Mim

Poets ruin ULV’s Homecoming

With the buzz of Homecoming in the air Saturday, the La Verne Leopards made their strongest push yet to break their season-long losing streak against the Whittier Poets, only to fall short as Taylor Hart’s potential game-tying field goal sailed wide left with 10 seconds left in the game.

Football drops to 0-5 after loss to Occidental

Going on the road to face the No. 21 team in the nation, La Verne lost to the Occidental Tigers, 45-7, Saturday.

Throwing a total of 234 passing yards against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, senior quarterback Troy Doolittle helped La Verne tie the game 20-20 in the fourth quarter by getting ULV into field goal position.
