A Stu-Han dorm room theft of two laptops, some cash and an external hard drive took place last weekend.
Antoinette Schanes is one of the students who had her computer stolen.
She realized someone had broken into her room when she and her roommate came back from a party on Saturday night.
“It happened between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m.,” Schanes said. “I got back and saw the room was a mess and thought it was a prank; but then we saw the screen from the window was, like, five feet away from the window.”
She said she called the resident assistant on duty, who called Campus Safety and the La Verne Police Department.
“I wasn’t happy because I didn’t feel safe at all,” Schanes said. “This is the second time this has happened in the Stu.”
This was not the first time Schanes has had something stolen while living on campus, citing last year when she and her roommate both had digital cameras, cell phones and iPods stolen while living in the Oaks.
According to Jeff Clark, assistant director of campus safety, the lighting has been enhanced in the dark areas of the Stu-Han dorms.
Lights that turn on at night have been added to create a safer environment at the dorm entrances.
“Make sure to lock doors and keep windows closed,” Clark said. “Windows should be secured tightly.”
“Females should be extra careful,” Clark said. “Doors and windows should even be locked when going to the shower.”
Clark said the La Verne Police Department is investigating, but has not released any leads or suspects.
