The President’s Dining Room reached its capacity last Thursday as students, faculty and members of the community gathered for the International Studies Institute’s Hot Spot lecture series, “The Exile of Benjamin Britten.”

A decade later, 9/11 has begun to evolve from a current event to part of American history. Right now only 21 states mention the terror attacks of Sept. 11 in their educational standards, some provide lesson plans, but their teachers are not legally required to follow them or even teach it at all.

This spring students had the opportunity to relive a little recent history as the sociology-anthropology department offered a new class – The 1960s.

Richard Gelm, professor of political science and the chairman of the history and political science department for the past nine years, has published “How American Politics Works: Philosophy, Pragmatism, Personality and Profit.”

Born on Aug. 22, 1917, in College Park, Md., Roland “Ort” Ortmayer was destined for greatness. Yes, greatness is a broad word that can mean many things, but that is what Ort was to the many people he influenced in his life.

Claremont officials revealed the contents of their 25-year capsule to the public at the front of the City Council Chambers Oct. 3, along with refreshments and remarks.
