Spot staffers say they are concerned following a weekend break-in, during which a number of food items were stolen from the snack bar.
Spot Manager Jill Coverdale reported the incident to John Lentz, director of campus safety and transportation, Monday when she arrived at 5 a.m. to find missing food items as well as a damaged cash register.
Campus Safety said the incident occurred either Saturday night or Sunday.
The items stolen consisted of typical snacks from the Spot such as candy, chips, and ice cream, worth more than $100, according to the report.
The register was damaged as well and it appeared that the thieves attempted to break into it. Money is not left in that register overnight.
La Verne maintenance was able to fix the damaged register by the snack bar’s opening time Tuesday.
A police investigation took place on Monday morning, but no fingerprints were found on the register, according to Campus Safety.
“The University needs to install some sort of security system,” Coverdale said.
“We will have something installed,” Lentz said. “We’re trying to get an agreement on alarms and or cameras.”
