Students remember 2,055 fallen American soldiers

Two thousand fifty-five soldiers have died in Iraq since 2003. On Veterans Day, the University of La Verne’s peace studies program sponsored a tribute to the fallen soldiers by erecting crosses in the University Mall. A week prior to the event students made the 2,055 crosses that were used as part of the tribute. Each cross represented a soldier who has died while serving in the war. “The crosses are a great visual representation to show how many soldiers have died in the War in Iraq,” freshman Shanae Diaz said. The names of the soldiers who have died were read aloud. Most were younger than 30. / photo by Kourtney Brumfield
