The one sport on campus that never seems to disappoint their fans is the University of La Verne women’s volleyball team.
With an undefeated SCIAC record of 14-0 and an overall record of 26-6, the women Leopards continue the dynasty for the eighth year in a row, holding the crown of SCIAC champions.
With outstanding numbers, this places ULV with the number two seed in the region.
This weekend the women will travel to Cal State East Bay to compete in the West Regional finals in hope to advance to the NCAA division three finals next weekend.
“Every one is excited to play in an energetic atmosphere,” said senior middle blocker Tiona Hobson. “It’s the playoff fever.”
La Verne has a bye the first round but in the second round will compete against the winner of the Cal State East Bay, Colorado College game.
“We have to focus on the game,” Brianna Gonzales said. “We have to set a good tempo, come out with poise and energy.”
La Verne has climbed one spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll in each of the past four weeks and has earned its highest ranking of the season at the No. 4 spot.
Now at a crucial time in the post-season, the teams that La Verne will face will be of a higher caliber.
ULV is one of five West Region teams in the Top 25 poll which includes No. 9 Cal State East Bay, No. 13 Pacific Lutheran, No. 20 Puget Sound and No. 25 Colorado College.
“Every game is going to be a challenge,” Hobson said. “It’s the best of the best.”
ULV will play their first regional game against the winner of the Cal State East Bay and Colorado College first round match on Friday.
