Debbie Marquez has been named the new Information Systems Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at University of La Verne for the 1999-2000 academic year.
Marquez is the recent faculty member at the university. In 1997, she entered as an Administrative Aid II, then stepped toward the position of Administrative Aid I office manager in 1998.
“What made me interested in ULV was the attendance of my youngest daughter to the school,” said Marquez. “I got to know how great the school was.”
Marquez’ tasks and responsibilities include mailing out responses to inquiries for the applicants, accuracy on statistics and numbers, data entry, and the process of status changes for applicants.
“Being an Information Systems Specialists has brought me new, exciting challenges and made me a part of the position’s learning process,” said Marquez.
Aside from her office and paperwork responsibilities, Marquez is also learning the technological side of her new position.
‘Tm excited to learn more about the computer systems on campus and to develop better ways of integrating computer systems with the admissions process,” said Marquez in a recent interview published in the Admissions’ Office Newsletter. “I believe the possibilities are limitless.”
Marquez, although only three months into her position, enjoys her line of work.
“It feels great to help students through the whole application process, and seeing the same names from the beginning, wind up being enrolled.”
Marquez is also very involved with her family.
“One of my favorite hobbies is spending time with my six grandchildren, going to their school functions, and being a good grandmother to them,” said Marquez.
Despite all her responsibilities, Marquez also makes time for sewing and crafts, in addition to her duties at home and work.
Marquez has been at her new position since August of this year along with 10 other admission staff members.
“Working in the Admissions Office is an enjoyment within itself because a lot of teamwork goes on and everyone helps each other out,” said Marquez. “lt is a real pleasure.”
Currently, Marquez and the rest of Admissions staff are undergoing the handling of inquires and applications for the Fall term of the year 2000.
“I think that this year our goal is to improve on quicker processing of information for the students,” said Marquez. “There is always a way to learn and improve our inquiry flow.”
