Due to air quality concerns throughout Southern California because of the ongoing wildfires, the La Verne and Redlands football teams traveled to Palm Desert Saturday for their Southern California Intercol­legiate Ath­letic Conference game originally scheduled to be played in Redlands.

With the buzz of Home­coming in the air Saturday, the La Verne Leopards made their strongest push yet to break their season-long losing streak against the Whittier Poets, only to fall short as Taylor Hart’s potential game-tying field goal sailed wide left with 10 seconds left in the game.

After fighting their way into overtime, the Leopards suffered a heartbreaking 26-20 loss against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at Earl J. Merritt Field Saturday night.

After leading the game before the half, the La Verne football team suffered another loss at home to the visiting Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Saturday.
