The La Verne baseball team defeated No. 1 seeded Cal Lutheran, 4-2, after junior shortstop Woody Reyes drove in two runs on a single to second in the top of the seventh, ensuring the Leopards’ win and claiming their title as Southern California Inter­collegiate Athletic Con­ference champions Sunday at Ullman Stadium in Thousand Oaks.

The baseball team took the first game of its series against Cal Lutheran, 5-4, Friday at Ben Hines Field. The Leopards remain in first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Confer­ence with a record of 15-6, and 18-13 overall on the season.

As the Pacific University Boxers found their offensive rhythm, the La Verne baseball team fell short and faced a tough 11-6 loss Sunday in game four of their series.

The baseball team battled back, after a 4-1 loss in their first game, to finish off the series with a 14-6 win against New Jersey natives Kean March 18 and 19 at Ben Hines Field.

A three-run homer by senior pitcher Mark Jebbia sealed the deal for the La Verne Leopards, putting them up 10-1 in their second game of the weekend Saturday at Ben Hines Field.

The baseball team brought its talents back to Ben Hines Field at Campus West for its first game of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and home opener of the season with a 12-1 win Friday over the Caltech Beavers.
