The Campus Safety and Transportation Department is now responsible for lost and found items on campus. Any lost property can be found at the Campus Safety office, on the side of the Old Gym.

The reason Campus Security is head of the lost and found is to better serve the University as a whole.

Students will no longer have to search for missing property. “We are trying to centralize this to where the only lost and found comes to Campus Safety,” said John Lentz, director of campus safety and transportation.

“In the past, things were turned into switchboard, the Student Center, the Library, and a variety of other places,” said Lentz.

The switchboard in Founders Hall was the most popular place to find lost and found items, being the center of campus.

The switchboard operators will continue to accept the lost property, while Campus Safety is still making its transition. At the end of the day, the operator will notify Campus Safety so the property can be retrieved.

When property is found, instead of returning it to the switchboard or the resident assistant offices in the residence halls, students should notify Campus Safety. They will pick the item up, log it, and write a formal report.

“In the past we have sent people all over campus,” said Lentz.

Owners of lost property such as school identification cards, keys with photos on them, or class rings will be called.

“This will ease the hassle for the students, faculty, and staff to have one centralized location,” said Lentz

Contact ext. 4950 or #6666, which is located on the pay phones surrounding the University, regarding lost and found information.

The lost property will only be returned upon presenting the proper identification.
