In attempts to make registration an easier process for both students and faculty, the University of La Verne is replacing the current Tuition Management System with FACTS.
FACTS, by a company that offers a new form of online registration and payment instillation, will be up and running here this fall.
And with its implementation, ULV students will have the options that thousands of other college and university students have enjoyed for years.
“Tuition Management System was not offering student accounts an integrated solution to accommodate the growing needs of the students,” said accounting department controller Lori Gordien.
In an effort to keep up with many other universities that have already adopted this form of tuition management, ULV opted for FACTS, an organization that partners with other schools that own an approved interface system.
“Other than the online availability and convenience, there should be no visible difference in the system and its options,” Gordien said.
The same options and installment plans will still be available. The option of entering Woody Hall and registering with the Registrar’s Office is still available to all students with an additional online option that is expected to decrease much of the lines and wait.
“The goal is to achieve shorter lines and more accessibility for students,” Gordien said.
Students are glad to hear that progress is being made to the registration and payment process.
“It does not make sense that our school is so small, and we have so much to go through so much red tape when it comes to class registration in comparison to schools with a much larger student population,” said Kathy Carr, sophomore. “This should have been done a long time ago.”
“All of this renovation and improvement took a lot of work and dedication on the staff’s part,” Gordien said. “It has been an enormous amount of work to get off of the ground but we feel that it will be very beneficial to the staff and the students in the long run.”
Multiple committees and departments, including financial aid and student accounts, worked together to make this project a success.
“My role in this process was to oversee student accounts,” said Gordien. “I reviewed the contracted aspects and made certain that the project ran on schedule, but I give full credit to the staff from the various departments who made this happen.”
The web registration accessibility is also expected to benefit those who work in student accounts and in the Registrar’s Office.
Junior Megan Howard, student employee at the Registrar’s Office, said she hopes that this new system will lighten the workload come registration time.
“It is the busiest and most hectic time of the year,” Howard said.
“As a result of replacing TMS with FACTS, paperwork and long lines should decrease. Plus, it will make it much easier for people who may have problems registering in person, especially if they attend classes off of the main campus.”
Howard also said that students that choose to take care of their business on line will be pleases with the change in systems.
“Students can register at their own convenience on the web,” Howard said.
Gordien said brochures with information will be available to students who have questions about the changes and options.
