In the ‘90s boy bands had millions of young teens replaying their music, buying tickets to their sold-out shows and sometimes literally falling at their feet.

Now boy bands are making a comeback with appearances on television and radio as well as being featured on the cover of magazines.

These bands are made of attractive young men who target teens with their pop and R&B music.

“What they’re doing now is no different than what was done in the ‘90s,” said Gerrick Kennedy, pop music writer from the Los Angeles Times.

The original boy bands hit their peek with ‘N Sync, New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men and the Backstreet Boys.

Some of the new wave of boy bands bringing back the teen heart-throb scene are Mindless Behavior, Big Time Rush, One Direction and The Wanted.

“(Today’s boy bands are like) the modern ‘N Sync but worse,” said Christina Delgado, freshman political science major.

“They kind of sound all the same,” said Remy Easterling, freshman English major.

Mindless Behavior is an R&B group of four teens between the ages of 14 and 15 who combine their music with choreographed dancing.

Some of their most known singles are “My Girl” and “Mrs. Right.”

“(Mindless Behavior’s) music is so upbeat,” Easterling said. “It makes me want to dance.”

“They’re so young that I don’t believe their lyrics about girls,” Delgado said.

Big Time Rush is an American boy band consisting of four members between the ages of 21 and 22, who also have a television show on Nickelodeon titled after them.

One of their more popular singles is “Boyfriend” featuring Snoop Dogg. Their current album, “Elevate,” is at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 charts.

Simon Cowell’s creation, One Direction, came from the English version of The X Factor. The five members that are 18 to 20 years-old, were grouped together to form the band.

“What Makes You Beautiful,” is a popular song by One Direction that they performed on Saturday Night Live last Saturday.

Kennedy described One Direction as a group in the mode of Justin Bieber.

One Direction and The Wanted are both British-Irish boy bands.

“They’re both taking the same approach,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said it is hard to differentiate between their fans because they both attract older fans.

“One Direction seems to be split through the middle (between teens and older fans),” Kennedy said.

The Wanted, which is made of five members ranging from the ages of 18 to 23, are known for their hit single “Glad You Came.”

“The Wanted is good but they’re not huge yet,” freshman Jenni Peterson said. “They only have one hit.

“(They are) very upbeat for the most part,” Peterson said.

“Glad You Came” by The Wanted has already been featured on Glee, and there are rumors of One Direction having its music on the show as well.
