Small music stores are few and far between, but what many people do not know is that a lot of the time, these music stores take pride in what they sell, much more than the large music distributor that sells compact disks for around $17 a piece.
At Rhino Records in Claremont, there are people who not only know all types of music, they speak the music and are always a great help in searching for that unique album.
Looking for an album can be very difficult these days with the appreciation for music continually on the rise. With stores such as Rhino, finding certain albums is no longer a hassle.
Rhino specializes and carries not only everyday music heard on the radio, but the local labels and always hard-to-find imports that may take five to six weeks to order elsewhere.
Scott Feemster, manager of Rhino said, “Here at Rhino we are not at all like the bigger chain stores. Most of them are just glorified appliance stores that just so happen to also carry the weekly top 40. Our whole focus here is music, music, and more music. Our saying is, ‘Music spoken here.'”
These days many music enthusiasts find themselves spending way too much on new CDs. This is why Rhino also carries a large amount of used CDs for sale at over half of their original prices.
Feemster said, “We carry used CDs too because many people don’t just buy an album once a month. Many people walk in here looking for five or six selections, so if we can offer a album that still sounds new at half the price, why not?”
Freshman music enthusiast Grant Acosta said, “Rhino stocks a lot of local bands and hard-to-find artists. Because I have many friends in local bands, I find it really cool to shop in a place where I know many of the bands personally. It is one of the only places I shop for albums, and I really enjoy the appreciation they have for music there versus everyone else out there just to make a buck.”
