Dance team shakes its groove thang

In between the dance team’s performances there were guest performances by fellow ULV students Christie Roberts, Rebecca Newman and many others. Roberts and Newman graced the stage with their voice, singing songs old and new such as “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”

Roberts also sang a couple of her original songs while playing her guitar.

“The guest performers did a wonderful job and I appreciate them doing it,” Sistina Smith said.

Zabarnick gave a monologue to spice things up a little bit.

Her performance was intriguing and her guest actor, Darnell Gilbert, contributed to the success of the performance.

Gilbert made another special appearance when he was used as Sistina Smith’s prop in her solo performance.

Smith did a great job and danced beautifully throughout all her performances.

Throughout the show, the small audience was visibly entertained and enjoyed the dazzling performances.

After each number the hosts came out and introduced the next performers. Unfortunately, while doing so, Zabarnick and Chantae Smith seemed somewhat detached.

Zabarnick, while having good eye contact with the crowd, did not show much enthusiasm, leaving the crowd a little bored.

Co-host Chantae Smith was not much better; many times she did not show any eye contact with the crowd and did not speak clearly, at one point introducing a performer while walking off the stage, leaving the crowd a little lost.

DJ Wendt began repeating what no one had heard and trying to wake the audience up.

The most amusing part, besides watching the dance performances, was during the intermission. Not because you could get up and move, but because of the booty-shaking contest among the audience members.

A few students volunteered to come up on stage and do a dance, while the crowd’s applause chose the winner who received ice cream.

Krista Davis, Siddeeqah Shabazz and DJ Wendt were just some of the students who participated. Shabazz and Wendt, however, won the competition when they danced together and did the cry baby.

The cry baby is the dance Michael Jackson did in his “The Way You Make Me Feel” video.

Wendt and Shabazz had the crowd roaring with laughter and made the show very interesting.

Overall, the dance performances were great. The ladies did a wonderful job. The guest performers brought a lot to the show making it even more enjoyable for the audience.

“I think the show went really well and I am proud of the girls and their hard work has really paid off,” Sistina Smith said.

With a little help from DJ Wendt the emcees weren’t that bad and were much better the second night for those who went Friday.

All in all, the show seemed to be a success, and hopes are high for 2006.

“I look forward to working with the new dance team. And for next year’s show I plan to have a lot more variety and more dance numbers,” Sistina Smith said.
