ULV goes out fishing

Casting out into the waters of Pomona’s Puddingstone Lake, the newly formed ULV Marlins Fishing Club took its inaugural expedition Sunday.

Though the fish were asleep, fellowship was on the hook as club members relaxed, barbequed and, of course, fished the day away.

Convivial was the tone as the 14 hopeful sportpeople mingled and swapped stories about ones that got away.

Although their best efforts produced little bounty, spending a perfect day under the sun lakeside left members satisfied.

They don’t think the fish will be so lucky next time.

“We try to have two trips a month,” said club founder Neal Houska, senior.

Membership is open to any full-time students interested in participating fishy pursuits. Faculty are also encourage to cast off.
“This club is to get students, staff and faculty (to) have a good time while bonding” Houska said.

Plans for the near future include entering a competition at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park at the end of this month, where the prize will go to the one who catches the biggest fish. It is expected to be fierce.”There will be about 200 competitors,’’ Houska said. “We will compete against members and fishers that have fishing licenses.”
