The Campus Activities Board hosted an event in Sneaky Park last week that centered on Black superheroes.

“LeoCon” in honor of Black History Month, included a scavenger hunt for attendees to compete and earn tumbler cups.

CAB member Alaa Shilleh, senior biology major, said the inspiration for the theme was Comics so CAB turned that idea into LeoCon.

“It included Marvel characters in superheroes that are African-American,” Shilleh said.

SoCal BBQ & Catering provided food.

“It’s cool,” said Maya Espinoza, freshman biology major, who attended the Feb. 3 event. She said it felt good to be starting the spring semester off with a fun event.

Brooklyn Malveaux, freshman biology major, said she was happy the event honored Black History month. She said her high school didn’t offer such Black History Month activities.

“I’ve seen the events that are planned out for the rest of this month and I’m really excited to be back on campus for the spring semester,” Malveaux added.

The event organizers said they hope to create more events to honor diverse cultures and traditions.
