As these last few days creep unsuspectingly upon us all, it is hard not to wonder what will happen to the friendships that we have created. I can’t help but think of the cliché “Good friends are had to come by” and how I never thought it could ring so true until now.
For the past few months, I have been caught myself thinking about the end of the semester. For me it is no real milestone, heck I still have one more year left, but this year’s graduation will be especially hard.
Losing three of my best friends will be an adjustment that I feared during my previous college years.
I have been lucky enough to spend my last three years here surrounded by some really amazing people. People that truly are one in a million, diamonds in the rough.
Friends who have stayed up all hours of the night, talking about nothing. Friends who can bring out the randomness and spontaneity in me.
Through all the Thursday night escapades, late night study sessions and just driving around in each others cars listening to music, we have been able to relate our friendship to those we see on television. I know this is lame, but in so many ways the resemblance is mind-boggling. These friends have been able to find the Elaine in me, the part which I like the best.
To George: You truly are destined for greatness. We have had so many great times laughing together.
Stealing Olympic coats in Utah, pretending to be your British agent, studying for psychology tests on the roof, and the ever popular going to Miss Donuts and Bagels at 4 a.m. to get fresh donuts. You have never failed at putting a smile on my face; thank you for that, and thank you for being you.
To Kramer: Good Lord, you are a special person. I have never met someone so self-less. I can honestly say that I strive to be like you. You are wacky, spontaneous, deep and real. Four traits that one cannot usually find in the same person. You are an all around perfect ten.
We have had so many good times. Our time in Europe this past summer was unreal. I really feel blessed to have spent some really memorable moments together, oceans away from any normalacy that we have here.
You have taught me more than any friend ever has and ever could. I will miss you so much while you are gone, but like you have always told me, we will never be too far away.
To Jerry: For some reason saying goodbye to you is always the hardest. You bring so much to my life. We have had so many great times together, laughing the whole way through. You are a solid person.
I will never forget all of the late nights in Campus Times listening to Alanis and Celine, all of the inside jokes, and most of all, your presence. You have been my saving grace so many times that I cannot recall all of the instances, just know that you have helped make me who I am; thank you. I don’t know what I will do without you next year; nobody could ever fill your shoes.
I know the combination of distance and time has ways of deteriorating friendships, but I hope our case is different.
So as we all gather for end of the year receptions, and stress over the pressure of finals, I hope these last few days are memorable and…
Full of the laughter that has brought us all this far.
