Would it be crazy if I said that 24 hours is just not enough time to get through the day? Honestly, it always seems like I’m constantly searching for that extra hour to fit in homework, participate in activities at school, to work or even sleep just a little bit longer.
Long days at school, rushing from one class to the next, working late into the night to get that paper done and waking up early for class the next morning and of course I can’t forget the weekends full of stress over homework: this is pretty much the description of my life as a college student.
The life of a college student may seem to be only fun and full of excitement, but at the same time I think I speak for most students when I say that there just aren’t enough minutes to get everything done in one day.
I am continually finding myself writing down my daily schedule to see where I can fit in an interview for my next article or time to do homework, and I always feel that there just isn’t enough time. My desktop calendar is full of all of the assignments that are due, events I have to go to for sorority and the days I go to work.
Finally, I realized that I was running out of colors to choose from my markers and that there wasn’t one day that I could just have some free time to do whatever I want.
There are nights where I barely get sleep. I live in the worry of not getting things done. There are even times when I forget assignments that are due or I check the time and I realize that there was somewhere I had to be right at that second. And I can’t forget about the skipped meals during the day and the late night snacks that serve as comfort food. I guess that’s just the life of a college student.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all just work and no play, but my question is: when do I get to have fun instead of worrying about all of the work? I guess that isn’t going to happen anytime soon, but I can always wish, right?
Despite all of the lows, I’m doing the things that I like to do, and we are all practicing for the future. So I guess that I can’t complain too much.
My advice is to get a planner, fill it up and just take every task one at a time. It’s the best that we can do. Today’s world is so fast paced that sometimes it’s hard to keep up. All we can do is take everything one step at a time.
Most importantly, the best we can all do to help us maintain our busy lives is to take a second out of the chaos and breathe. I can write tasks down, cross them off and at the end of the day I feel a sense of accomplishment.
It may seem overwhelming to see everything that has to be done on paper, but the feeling of getting everything done and crossing that task off the list is such a great feeling.
In reality, if it weren’t for college, all of the classes, the piles of work and sleepless nights, what would I be doing with myself? College may be the source of my stress, but it’s also the source of my happiness. I made the choice to be here, so I figure that I should make the best out of it.
So in those late nights when everything seems to be driving you crazy and you feel like the only thing left to do is scream into your pillow: think to yourself. Come on, what else would you be doing right now?
