With beautiful dresses, ties, dress slacks and crowns, seniors Adrian Ferrera and Felirose Tamparong were crowned Homecoming king and queen before an excited crowd at the football game Saturday during halftime at Ortmayer Stadium.
During halftime, court members walked through a tunnel of cheerleaders to the center of the field. Boxes in front of each member were to determine the king and queen.
Once the boxes were opened, balloons and name cards revealed Ferrera and Tamparong as the 2005 Homecoming king and queen.
Ferrera was crowned as University of La Verne’s 2005 Homecoming king by the 2004 Homecoming king, Brian Ortega.
Ferrera is currently a member of the Leopards’ basketball team, Psi Chi, Brothers’ Forum and Student Athlete Advisory Committee. His major is psychology. He was nominated by Brothers’ Forum.
“I could just hang out with my friends and have fun,” Ferrera said about Cosmic Bowling night, one of the activities during Homecoming week. “I had fun during the whole week meeting new people.”
Tamparong was crowned by the 2004 Homecoming queen, Rachel Leber.
Tamparong is the president of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority. She is a movement and sports sciences major and is an athletic trainer for the football team.
“It was hectic on Saturday because I had to be an athletic trainer in the morning until the end of the first quarter,” she said, “Then I had to go back on the field as an athletic trainer for the rest of the game.”
Tamparong is active in many clubs and activities on campus. She is the secretary of the Kanaka Hui Ohana Hawaiian Club, is involved in the athletic training education program, is a member of the athletic training student club, was an Orientation Week Leader and currently works at Leo’s Den.
Tamparong was nominated by her sorority.
“I was excited to win,” Tamparong said. “However, I would have been excited if anyone else on court won because they are all my really good friends.”
Other members of the Homecoming court were Phi Delta Theta President Kenny Colby, Sigma Kappa President Janah Valenzuela, Hugo Bryan Castillo, Sophia Ornelas, Sigma Alpha Epsilon President Blaine Bacher and Associated Student Federation Forum President Dana McJunkin.
“I really like that everyone on court made it fun because we’re all friends,” court member Ornelas said. “I really liked illuminations because it showed a lot of spirit from the school.”
Court members were announced last Monday during Illuminations, the first event that took place during Homecoming week.
