Five suspects – two adults and three juveniles – were taken into police custody Wednesday after allegedly attempting to break into and burglarize several La Verne homes, police said.
The suspects were apprehended by police near Via de Mansion and Hickory Drive after leading police on a chase through the neighborhood, according to a La Verne Police Department news release.
Police received a call after 7 a.m. Wednesday from a resident who said someone was trying to enter her front door by turning the knob, the release said.
A second resident called police reporting a suspicious vehicle in the area, and a third resident also called and said someone was trying to enter her front door, police said.
Officers spotted a man in the area walking toward a vehicle that matched the resident’s description. When they asked the man to stop, he ran to the waiting vehicle, which sped off and led police on a chase, police said.
The vehicle turned onto a dead-end street and crashed into a parked car, police said.
The suspects are being held at the La Verne jail.
