Playing against the University of Redlands last Friday, the University of La Verne softball team brought its record to 10-5 after splitting the doubleheader against the Bulldogs, 3-2 and 7-2.
The Leopards led in the first game, 1-0, when Redlands tied the game in the fourth.
Scoring again in the fifth, La Verne took the lead, 2-1, and kept the lead until the seventh when Redlands scored two to win the game, 3-2.
The Leopards banged out 14 hits, including a triple by junior Loree Grey.
In the second game, the Leopards took charge and would not let the Bulldogs score until the sixth, when they scored their two runs.
Sophomore Sharnae Lancaster kept Redlands off the bases for five innings. A triple by freshman Jennifer Caforio in the second gave the Leopards two runs to make the score 3-0 after La Verne scored in the first. Two more runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth gave the Leopards the win, 7-2.
On Saturday, the Leopards also split the doubleheader against Whittier to make their record 11-6.
La Verne plays tomorrow against Buena Vista at noon and compete in the UC San Diego Tournament, April 4-6. La Verne will resume SCIAC play against Pomona-Pitzer on April 13.
