Day of the Dead

In honor of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, there will be several celebrations across Southern California. Among them is “The Here and Now,” an event with poetry readings, mask-making and exhibitions. Held by Self-Help Graphics & Art, the event will feature “Noche de la Palabra,” or “Night of the Word,” and will kick off tonight at 5 p.m. on 3802 Cesar Chavez Ave. in Los Angeles. Video/DVD Release

Dreamworks is releasing the No. 1 movie so far this year, “Shrek,” on video and DVD today. For more information, visit www.shrek.com.

Benefit Concert

Tickets for the second annual Silver Lining Silver Lake shows go on sale tomorrow. The show will feature Elton John, Sting, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jaguares, Aimee Mann, Daniel Lanois and Jurassic 5 and will benefit the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. The shows takes place Dec. 13-15.

Movies

Three major movies open this weekend. First is John Travolta’s latest, “Domestic Disturbance,” which also stars Vince Vaughn.

Next, for family fare, is “Monsters, Inc.,” featuring the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal.

Finally, there is the action flick, “The One,” starring martial arts star Jet Li.
