The Master of Science in Leadership Management program had a Partnership Poster Presentation Tuesday evening in the Campus Center at the University of La Verne.

The poster presentations were created by class members of the Management 556: Building Partnerships; Creating Coalitions class.

This class focuses on developing awareness and skills in organizational analysis and the ability to create alliances based on mutual goals.

The theme of the presentations was each student had to take a particular case study they were assigned and create a presentation showing what it involved.

The presentations showcased case study examples such as celebrity endorsers and the companies they work for, mentorship and women and how entrepreneurs bring leadership and build partnerships.

International business transactions and the collaboration between manufacturers and suppliers in the automobile industry was also touched on during the event.

Marissa Scholfield, a second semester MSLM student based her poster presentation on how gender stereotypes prohibit women from excelling in education.

“I did my case study on a school district located in Rosemead, CA. It was actually a success story on women in management positions in education,” Scholfield said.

Vanessa Garbo, who is also a MSLM student, did her presentation based on a case study of the effectiveness of celebrity endorsements.

She focused on Michael Jordan and five companies that he has endorsed (Nike, Gatorade, Hanes, Wheaties and McDonalds) as her prime examples of the success celebrity endorsements can have for companies.

“This class is very interesting, it teaches you the importance of building partnerships and coalitions in and out of the workplace,” Garbo said.

“As a fan of the entertainment business doing this case study on celebrity endorsements helped me to learn about the relationships that can be made between companies and entertainers.”

Garbo said she also enjoys the learning of leadership theories and how they can be applied to any type of situation, which is extremely useful.

Brianna Morales presented on the sponsorship between Visa credit cards and the Olympic Games.

“Doing this project really opened my eyes to how two completely different companies such as Visa and the Olympics can make a coalition and work together,” Morales said.

“It showed me the types of problems that can arise in situations such as these.”

All the students participating in the Poster Presentations had positive things to say about the class, and the MSLM program in general.

“I highly recommend this major to anyone looking for a broader range of study rather than just Business and Economics,” Morales said.

“The scenarios you learn about in the classes assigned to this major are not only theoretical, but practical,” Yesian Ozkan, another MSLM student said. “I’ve learned a lot about different aspects of business such as how to start a company which I think is really important.”
