The track and field team participated in two invitationals last weekend to improve their performance and qualify them for Nationals.
On Saturday ULV traveled to Cal Poly Pomona to find strong competition and improve their scores.
Sophomore Eric Thomas put up impressive numbers, gaining his best time in the 200 meters, 21.76.
“It was the best race I have ran this year, but I can still run better if I put it together,” Thomas said.
His time earned him a provisional qualification to travel to Nationals. He will compete in the 4×100, 200m and 4×400 as of right now.
Thomas hopes to run a better time in the 4×4 and qualify for the 400 tomorrow at Claremont.
“I know I can qualify in the 400 by the way I am running right now,” Thomas said.
He missed qualification in the 400 last weekend by .03 seconds and improved his time by a second.
On Sunday the track and field team made a trip to the beach participating in the UC Irvine Steve Scott Invitational.
ULV competed against every division of schools.
La Verne athlete Leti Arroyo had a strong performance in the women’s 1,500 meters that provisionally qualified her with a time of 4:40.52.
ULV’s Lakia Sims also provisionally qualified in the women’s triple jump at 11.38 meters.
La Verne had two promising days in the sun.
They will compete at Claremont tomorrow in their final meet before Nationals.
The Leopards will continue on their quest for excellence on March 23, 24 and 25 in St. Paul, Minn., in the NCAA Track and Field Championship Meet.
