The smell of pasta and chicken parmesan and the sounds of violins transformed Davenport Dining Hall into an afternoon in Rome for Italian Culture Day.
The Campus Activities Board brought a piece of Italian culture last week to the students at the University of La Verne through the look and taste of Italy.
“I really enjoyed it because it was teaching students a different culture,” said Spencer Contreras, junior business administration and co-major events chair for CAB.
“We got to listen to a different type of music we usually don’t listen to, taste different foods and learn about the culture from the placemats that were on the table,” Contreras said.
The dining hall was fully decorated with balloons colored to match the Italian flag and cutouts of different landmarks of Italy.
The decorations also included placemats with facts about some of Italy’s richest treasures including: the Coliseum, the city of Venice and the Mona Lisa.
The food being served at the dining hall featured a variety of pastas, chicken parmesan and cannolis for dessert.
Ashley Cole, junior psychology major and the multicultural chair for CAB, showed the beauty of Italy and its heritage to the students.
“I saw (that) it was Italian heritage month, so I wanted to do it,” Cole said.
This is the second multicultural event Cole has put on this month, with the previous one featuring Germany’s Oktoberfest.
“I loved the turn out here at Davenport. There is music in the air and there are a lot of people that came for it,” said Cole.
“It was good, there were a lot of people there and the food was excellent,” marking chair for CAB, Carina Gonzalez, said.
Daisy Aldana, a junior anthropology major, visited both Rome and Florence while vacationing in Italy, and believes the Italian culture was well represented.
“I like the fact it was Italian themed. I loved the music playing, the atmosphere, and the pasta was really good,” Aldana said.
“I like to taste different types of food from different cultures, they should do that more often,” Aldana said.
