Students hopped through an inflatable obstacle course and bungee run during lunchtime Wednesday, as they “tested their leopard skills” at the Campus Activities Board event.
“With ‘Test Your Leopard Skills’ the obstacle course is supposed to challenge people who are coming out and having fun,” Allie Wehner, CAB vice chairwoman and junior legal studies major, said.
“When people are having fun, it helps them be more energized and spirited.”
Every table was filled with students enjoying lunch in the sun on the South Quad. The lunch included barbecue chicken, rice and macaroni and cheese.
Resident students ate with their meal plan out on the lawn while 100 commuters got to eat for free.
Many students came out to the event to enjoy the food and hang out with fellow students.
“Not a lot of people have school spirit because it’s college, so events like this make them feel involved and they can just relax and eat lunch,” Anais Hidalgo, CAB spirit chair, said.
The CAB members sat underneath their tent, greeting students who filled out waivers to jump in the obstacle course and bungee run.
Along with the lunch on the lawn and obstacles, prizes were given out every 15 minutes in a raffle.
Items from the bookstore including t-shirts, bags, water bottles and license plate frames awaited winners underneath the CAB tent.
Hidalgo, sophomore business major and coordinator for the event, said that this event was for students to feel the spirit of the campus before the year comes to a close.
Students were excited to be eating outdoors.
“I think this is a nice change from Davenport and it is a fun environment,” Denise Ponce, freshman kinesiology major, said.
“Events like this make me want to get more involved, seeing other people who are involved makes me feel motivated.”
CAB holds weekly events for students to build campus involvement and spirit. Their next event is the Earth Day celebration at 11 a.m. on April 22 at Davenport.
