It upsets me to think that an unborn child’s life has become so insignificant in our society that there is more compassion for a tree or an animal than for human life.
People become enraged about deforestation or animal cruelty, yet fail to be moved at the barbaric slaughter of a child in its mother’s womb. Activist will lash out, demanding environmental rights or animal rights, but ignore those of the unborn.
This neglectful attitude toward abortion has led our country to pass death sentences to more than 35 million babies. That is approximately 1.5 million babies, which have been killed each year since the infamous 1973 court decision of Roe vs. Wade case, according to Department of Health and Human Services. It led to the legalization of partial-birth abortion, a practice which allows an abortion up to the ninth month. In this method of abortion, babies are forced into a breech birth, keeping their head in the uterus. The head of the baby is punctured with medical scissors, to allow a suction tube to enter the skull to suck out the brains.
Activists justified the act by saying that the child was not a life because its head was still in the uterus.
Sadly, we still think a woman’s right to choose has no limitations. This is so immoral and shameful, yet we tolerate this as a society.
We must understand the purpose and functions of rights, and acknowledge there are certain limitations to them.
As citizens, we have the right to speech, but we know yelling “fire” in a theater is one boundary that is not allowed to be crossed. Even our history has made it evident that we must put limitations on those rights which infringe on those of another.
Take the Jewish Holocaust for example. Nazi Germany exterminated millions of Jews simply because they figured they had the right to kill anyone who did not fit the mold of their ideal race.
Funny, but that is very similar to what is occurring today. We are allowing children to be killed simply because they do not fit the definition of what a group of pro-choicers consider to be a human life. Sadly this is justified because supporters claim that women have the right to choose what they do with their bodies.
This is nothing more than selfishness, because they are completely ignoring the life growing inside of them. They are basically telling their child: “Son/ Daughter you must lay down your life so I can live mine without your inconvenience.” The statistics speak for themselves: approximately 90 percent of women have abortions out of convenience. These reasons include problems with the child’s father, worry about financial responsibility, concern about a change in lifestyle and fear that others will find out about their sexual activity.
Pro-choice supporters have taken these excuses and presented them as justifiable reasons for the legalization of abortion for years when they are nothing more than evidence of their self-centered mind set. However, the selfishness does not stop, because despite the facts, supporters just cross their arms and pout their lip and cry out, “It’s my body and I’ll do what I want with it.”
It reminds me of a little girl whose mom explained why she should not get a tattoo, and responds in the same manner.
In this case though the issue involves a human life, a problem we cannot just eliminate and run away from.
