Program hosts potential students

Through the Hosts program, high school students were invited to the University of La Verne to give them a sense of what university life is all about. This year’s Hosts Program for freshmen began at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 10.

“About 15 high school students came to the University of La Verne,” said Andi Nuñez, overnight coordinator and student worker at the Admissions Office.

Invitations were sent to students who have shown interest in ULV in the past.

“About a couple thousand invitations are sent, and we get about 25 replies,” she said.

The program included a tour of the school.

Parents who drop their children off at ULV also participate in the tour.

However, after the tour, they leave so that the students can get a full experience.

“They get to spend the night in the dorms with one of the hosts, they go to classes with their host, and they also get to go to the dining hall,” she said.

High school students came from different areas, including La Verne, San Dimas, Pomona and Riverside, Nuñez said.

The next Hosts program will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 13.
