The Entrepreneurial Action by Us club is holding “Clothing for Dignity and Success,” a clothing drive that was held until Dec. 4 and will donate to Pangasinan State University in Pangasinan, Philippines.
The club placed large bins at several locations around campus such as the second floor of the Landis Academic Center as well as in the Claremont and Pomona Rotary Clubs.
ENACTUS is a global, nonprofit club that focuses on getting students involved with free enterprise and the La Verne chapter has teamed up with the Rotary Clubs of Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines, Claremont and Pomona to collect business attire donations that they plan to distribute to students in the Philippines along with small pamphlets that the members of the club are creating.
These pamphlets will include tips for interviews, success skills and business card information.
“I really enjoy the work that we do in this club because it keeps us all under one conscious mind,” said Charles Bromberg, a senior business administration major and ENACTUS president.
Bromberg has been involved in several ENACTUS organized events and trips such as the City of Children trip to Mexico, where students worked with an orphanage that takes in entire families and pays for their children’s education.
During their time at the orphanage, students teach and talk to the younger children about the importance of higher education and explain to them why staying in an orphanage that can help provide for them is important.
The ENACTUS club competes in national expositions where students present business propositions to professional judges such as the chief financial officer of Kraft and executive members of the board. Last year, the La Verne chapter won third place and they plan to participate in the exposition again this May.
“We get a team of six together and during the exposition we give three presentations,” said Salvador Falcon III, a senior business management major and member of the presenting team. “The regional competition is in Anaheim and this year the World Cup will be in South Africa.”
Over the past 10 summers the club has hosted the three-week Reach Camp, which is open to first-generation local high school students. They are taught business concepts, get preparation for SAT classes and are encouraged to pursue higher education.
“Our constant mission and theme is to push higher education, show younger students that opportunity is out there and that it’s in their reach,” said Mariano Padilla, a senior business administration major.
Professor of Management Issam Ghazzawi is the adviser of ENACTUS and invites many of his business advisees to join the club.
“I really wanted to get involved in something bigger than me and Issam was my management professor and he really introduced and pushed me into joining,” Bromberg said. “This club is completely run by the passion of the student members and that’s what enticed me about it.”
ENACTUS meets every other Monday at 10 p.m. at the ASC in room 102.
