At its Wednesday meeting, the Associated Students Federation (ASF) Forum voted to change bylaws to the Constitution, discussed activities, future elections and gave committee reports.
Financial Review Board (FRB)
Bylaw changes to give decision-making power to the FRB were tabled to allow more time for legislation to be written. Board members debated the ramifications of giving the FRB the power to handle budget requests.
Because the FRB has yet to meet this year, the Forum handled a budget request from John Lentz, director of campus safety. He requested $427.50, half of the cost for 360 safety whistles, which he intends to issue for increased safety on campus. ASF granted the request, adding the stipulation that distribution be done in a controlled manner with more education on the safety whistles given, to avoid abuse.
Committees
The majority of the standing and special committees had not met prior to the meeting and had no report. The Box Office committee, which controls the sale of discounted movie and theme park tickets, however reported that tickets for Knotts Scary Farm would be available on Sept. 29. Movie tickets will soon be made available for the discounted price of $4. Movie passes are limited to two per student and theme park tickets are limited to one per student.
The newsletter committee plans to release its first issue in October. The issue will cover Homecoming and may include an advice column, entertainment review, as well as faculty and student articles.
Elections
Applications for new student representatives are due today. General Forum applications are due Sept. 22 and Special Elections for freshman and transfer representatives are on Sept. 24.
Activities
The Forum resumed unfinished business on the prospect of sponsoring “Fun Flicks,” an activity that enables students to create their own music videos. The Forum voted to create a committee to organize the event.
