LV to host pro journalists

Journalism and communications students have an opportunity to attend a winter workshop hosted by the Society of Professional Journalists at 10 a.m., Feb. 28 in the Art and Communications Building.

Among the professionals speaking at the event is keynote ABC sports anchor Rob Fukuzaki, a ULV alumnus.

“It’s always a learning experience to hear how professional journalists handle challenging situations, and it’s good to know people in your profession,” said Elizabeth Zwerling, assistant professor of journalism. Zwerling, who joined the SPJ’s Southern California Inland Professional Chapter last spring, is co-coordinating the conference.

In addition to the keynote address, the workshop will include panels discussing media access to government documents and “when sports becomes news.”

Rich McKee, president of California First Amendment Coalition, among others, will also speak at the workshop.
