Flu Vaccines Available

The Student Health Center will offer flu vaccines from Oct. 23-Oct. 31. The shot will cost $14 and will only be given to those over the age of 18, unless the student has a parent’s written consent.

Those who are pregnant, allergic to eggs, feverish or have the history of being paralyzed with Guillian-Barre syndrome should not take the shot.

Campus Center Ceremony

The groundbreaking for the Abraham Campus Center will take place 10 a.m. on Oct. 20.

Speakers will include president Stephen Morgan, ASULV president Jonathan Fitzhugh and Michael Abraham, a Board of Trustees member and one of the primary donors to the new center.

The groundbreaking will be part of the annual Homecoming festivities, which will include a picnic on Third Street, the football game against Whittier and various class reunions.

Baseball Coach Recognized

Alumnus and former University of La Verne baseball coach Ben Hines will be honored with the 2007 Alumnus of the Year Award for Service for Profession at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 during the Homecoming Dinner and Dance at the Sheraton Suites Fairplex.

Hines graduated from La Verne College and returned in 1958 to coach baseball for the next two decades. He helped the team advance to the NAIA World Series five times, winning in 1972.

He has coached 63 players who have gone on to play professionally. The 1972 national championship team will be honored as well.

Fulbright Scholar Lecture

Visiting scholar Johanna Kardux will lecture on “Slavery and Public Memory: Dutch and American National Heritage” at 3:45 p.m. Monday in the President’s Dining Room. Her talk will be preceded by a reception at 3 p.m.
