Randy Fox has been named the new store manager of University of La Verne’s bookstore.
Fox comes to ULV with 15 years of retail experience and most recently held a management position at Barnes & Noble for eight years.
“I like being in the college atmosphere again,” Fox said. “I’m looking forward to interacting with the students.”
Follet Higher Education Group Regional Manager, Sue Duits, hired Fox to take the place of previous bookstore manager, Jeff Myers.
Myers accepted a job opportunity at the Huntley Bookstore at the Claremont Colleges.
Fox will deal with the University’s main campus and regional campuses.
Before his involvement in retail, Fox received his bachleor’s degree from Central Washington University in music and had dreams of being a rock star.
“I did a mini tour but then I got into retail and I enjoyed the customer service aspect,” Fox said.
Fox said he looks forward to helping students and parents with their book buying experience and enjoys being back in the college atmosphere.
“It’s about getting out from behind the registers and helping people,” Fox said.
Fox has immersed himself in the University by going to the football games, checking out the music department and learning new names on campus.
Gary Bird, course material manager, has been working in the bookstore for four years.
Bird has been working with Fox in his first few weeks at ULV.
“It is very obvious that he has managerial experience,” Bird said. “It is going good and will only get better.”
Shannon Beckman, community relations manager at Barnes & Noble, worked with Fox for more than five years and said she believes he will do very well at ULV, but was sad to see him go.
“He made a cohesive team,” Beckman said. “I’ve been missing a piece of that since he left.”
Fox lives in Chino Hills with his wife and daughter.
